Clinical Laboratory Scientist Training Program

The Clinical Laboratories at UCSF Medical Center offer a paid one-year post baccalaureate Clinical Laboratory Scientist Training Program leading to obtaining California licensure as a clinical laboratory scientist. Training starts the last Monday of March and First Tuesday of September of each year. We accept 2-4 applicants each training cycle. The Application deadline is the last Friday of August for March training session and last Friday of May for the September training session.

The primary mission of the training program is to prepare qualified clinical laboratory scientists with the skills, knowledge, and attributes needed to provide outstanding patient care through the generation of quality laboratory results, essential in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.

We thrive to graduate technically competent clinical laboratory scientists, who possess independent judgement and problem solving skills and can critically assess the validity of clinical laboratory results.

The extensive scientific knowledge and laboratory skill developed through our training program will provide the student with an exceptional foundation to perform in all areas of a high complexity laboratory, including clinical chemistry, hematology, blood banking, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, cytogenetics, immunology/serology, urinalysis and body fluids.

Due to continued growth and demand for qualified clinical laboratory scientists, we expect our graduates to have employment at our labs by the time they obtain their California licensure.
